Daniel Fontana, the secret of my wellness lifestyle

Born in 1975 in General Roca, Argentina, into a family of sportsmen, Daniel Fontana is a triathlete who fell in love with endurance racing. In 2004 he participated in the Athens Olympics and in 2008 in the Beijing Olympics, then the Ironman: in his incredible track record stand out the Italian record set in Florida with the time of 8 hours 5 minutes and 48 seconds in 2013 and, in 2017, the title of first Italian to win in the official circuit Ironman in Los Cabos, Mexico, at the end of a masterpiece race.
We met Daniel Fontana and asked him to tell us about his personal concept of wellness.

I love comparisons and I never escape them, but when they are on an equal footing. Unfortunately, this doesn't always happen in my work.

Daniel Fontana, a sporty lifestyle

Daniel Fontana's day and usual lifestyle starts very early, breakfast and then immediately into training.  He wakes up at five thirty, a very light breakfast with coffee, oats and rice milk, and off to the pool for his first training with the team at 7.00.
Not only racing Daniel Fontana has other hobbies which are less demanding from a physical point of view, which still manage to give him the charge.

I have a huge passion for fly-fishing. I am Argentinean, and Patagonia, the land in which I grew up, is one of the favorite destinations for lovers of this discipline. The frenzy of everyday life in Milan prevents me from finding many opportunities to devote myself to this passion, but often, at the end of the season, I run away with the fishing rod in the car for a whole day in Piedmont or wherever it happens.

Fishing is for me a break from all the stress of everyday life and the best possible regeneration.

But not everything is positive: Daniel Fontana in his lifestyle does not tolerate those who make their work a mechanical and repetitive, without passion.

I don't like those who make of their routine only a task to be performed more out of obligation than out of enthusiasm. I love to put positive energy into the things I do, and I like to dedicate myself to what gives me back enthusiasm. I always say time passes anyway, it's worth using it with passion.

The happiness in the lifestyle of ironman and triathlete Daniel Fontana is made of simple things, those that are sometimes very difficult to achieve. The important thing is not to be obsessed with your physical appearance, because the substance of life is elsewhere.

For example, the quiet of a house with the people I love, a good book, a few precious friends, my sport, and maybe a good movie.

In triathlon, if there is no determination to sacrifice, it is better to change direction immediately.

I don't look for confirmation in the mirror and the form is much less important to me than the substance. So let's say I've never focused on what I don't like aesthetically about myself because I wouldn't know what to say.

Values like humility and generosity are the foundation of human existence, according to Daniel Fontana. Instead, those who live by abuse and ambition should be avoided.

I am generous and I am generous to the end. I invest a lot in friendship and family. Then excellence is always elsewhere; at least as I see it, there is always room for improvement, just as there are models to inspire us.

I can't stand arrogant people and cheaters - points out Daniel Fontana - I love comparisons and I never escape them, but when they are on an equal footing. Unfortunately, this does not always happen in my work. Great sin and an enormous injustice.

Daniel Fontana's private life: family, food and wellness

Among the things that have made Daniel Fontana happy is the birth of his eldest son Leonardo, desired and imagined exactly as he was born, while the champion admits gifts of nature of champions totally different from him in terms of sporting characteristics.

Fishing is for me a break from all the stress of everyday life and the best possible regeneration.

The feet of Mo Farah, the Olympic champion of 5000 and 10,000 meters are something unique. I am fascinated by an athletic gesture as perfect as his run.

Daniel Fontana has two nationalities: this allows him to choose the most relaxing place to find his dimension of well-being, or in the house in Argentina or Italy is indifferent.
Daniel Fontana, despite his age, is incredibly fit. Asking what his "magic potion" is a must for us to try to follow his wellness path. For him, too, everything starts with his diet: simple, whole foods, unprocessed cooking. Food is a culture that you learn, and for this, I have to thank the team of Enervit.

In many years of professionalism, they have been crucial in helping me make nutritional choices for the most important competitive events, but above all, they have taught me how to feed myself to respect my body and take care of my health.

Feuerbach was right in saying as early as the nineteenth century that we are what we eat. The body is a machine that can give us wonderful things back if we respect it and give it what it really needs.

Even though the training program does not allow transgressions, between careful nutrition and constant exercise, Daniel Fontana is granted from time to time a moment of pleasure not necessarily wellness. This is 100% Italian.  By nature I am not a transgressor; let's say, however, I am quite indulgent, with myself and with others. Too rigid schemes never pay off. If it can be considered a transgression, let's say that tiramisu easily demolishes my resistance.

Daniel Fontana's advice for a wellness lifestyle and his passion for Technogym equipment

Rhythm is a fundamental concept in sport, which Daniel Fontana repeats like a mantra to the guys he trains. It's his way of encouraging them to reach their limits.

I think that rhythm is really the secret, both of a good athletic performance and of life. Being always in regular movement, looking for the right cadences and never stopping, leads to the best successes. In sport, at work and in life in general.

Which is the advice of Daniel Fontana for those who want to take your sporting path? Try football! Joking, of course. It is undeniable, however, that triathlon, and even more so Ironman, is a sport made up of hard work, dedication, resilience and a great deal of determination and perseverance

If there is no willingness to sacrifice, it is better to change course immediately. Then, as always, when the efforts are important, the coin with which you are repaid has the sweet taste of satisfaction and the most beautiful emotions.
If you had to choose Technogym equipment, which one would you choose? I love MyCycling, Daniel Fontana says. For me, it was a real revolution in indoor cycling training.
