Michele Antonutti and training basketball shooting ability

In basketball, height matters. Starting from 202 cm and weighing 96 kg is certainly a good start: but the head counts even more, and Michele Antonutti (33 years old), a national basketball for Italy, knows how to use it. Especially when it's time to score a three-point field goal.

Let's ask Michele what goes through his head when playing basketball and in those tense moments when he is about to shoot the ball in the basket.

When I think back to those moments I think about something automatic, easy and something beautiful happening. It makes me feel good - he says - it is something that makes you feel happy, that gives you the energy to do the next thing. Antonutti approached basketball at a very young age and toured Italy, from Snaidero Udine - where he stayed for 8 years - to Sutor Montegranaro, and then went on to work as a soldier in Reggio Emilia, Fulgor Libertas Forlì, Caserta and Pistoia.

As a child, I saw that everyone went to play football, but there was the quagmire, the dirt ... I said "Let's see if there is another sport!. At school, there were posters promoting basketball, and that's how I started. I must have been five and a half years old, six years at most.

The key moments of a match? The fundamental thing is to be able to interpret the game: from the way you get into it to the difficulties you can overcome, passing through the difficulties you can't overcome, everything counts.

For example? There was a game in which I missed a lot of free throws: in theory, they should be very easy to send to the basket, and in fact, to me, they usually come very simply.

That time I made a lot of mistakes. In the week after the match, I worked a lot on that element, so I understood where my problem was and where mistakes had been made.

The result is that Michele Antonutti made no mistakes in the next game.

No matter what your career is, how much you play, the important thing is to be able to keep up the process all the time.

Training for basketball shooting

It is clear to fans that one of the most thrilling activities in the game of basketball is the shooting.  Shooting is a skill of basketball that depends on genetics (you must be born to do so well) but that can definitely be improved by training the correct technique of shooting with consistency, then with the daily practice.

  • technical-tactical
  • physique
  • psychological

The interviewees, who answered questions about whether you are born or become a marksman, how much time you have spent in shooting training and how important is the psychological aspect.

Shooting skills: something innate?

If some people think that there is something innate, others believe that you can acquire skills through training. In general, everyone thinks that a high number of shots is necessary every day. Another very important aspect is the player's body language, which translates into the right muscle tension (neither hypothesis nor hypertension).

Training the quantity allows you to automate the movement to accomplish it in the shortest time possible and avoid the defensive game from the opponent.

Self-confidence translates into thought I can always score. It highlights the need to repeat the gesture in a quantitative manner so that they have an automatism on which to build the sequence before the shot. The shot is a technique that must also be treated with many repetitions without an opponent, but with numerous variations of what precedes it.
Working one to one allows you to file the details of the gesture and allows you to strengthen the bond of trust between the coach and the player.

How much and how to train the basketball shot

According to the survey, shooting practice in basketball for a non-specialist player occupies a large part of the time of the weekly training. The training is done in different ways and some applications for conditional improvement.
According to the study, this can be as much as 25% of the training time dedicated to the various shooting exercises. The directions of these exercises can be divided into quantitative and qualitative.
Within this subdivision that clearly provides that the basketball player performs a large number of shots without a high metabolic load, while in the case of qualitative exercises are provided movements of such magnitude and speed that the player has a benefit from the exercise of shooting also from a metabolic point of view.

  • Training the quantity allows you to automate the movement to accomplish it in the shortest time possible and avoid being contrasted by the opponent.
  • Training the quality of the shooting in basketball means, among other things, preparing the best position of shooting after a movement, such as an exit from the blocks, in baying, or the shooting from the dribble.
