Prof. Blair is a Fellow of the American College of Epidemiology, the Society for Behavioral Medicine, the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Heart Association, and the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education.
He was the first president of the National Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity, and is a former-president of the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education.
Prof. Blair has received three honorary doctoral degrees and awards from many professional associations. He is one of the few individuals outside the U.S. Public Health Service to be awarded the Surgeon General's Medallion.
He is widely published - his research focuses on the associations between lifestyle and health, with a specific emphasis upon exercise, physical fitness, body composition, and chronic disease.
