Old Course hotel St. Andrews: wellness in the land of golf

Playing a round of golf on a course in Scotland, the home of this sport, is certainly an exciting and unique experience for enthusiasts and beyond. Although the debate on the birthplace of this sport is very heated, there is no doubt that the pioneers of the real golf were the Scots who have outlined the rules and defined what are the equipment to be used. The oldest golf course is in Scotland, precisely in St. Andrews, a town known throughout the world as The House of Golf with 11 courses in the immediate vicinity and more than 30 minutes by car.

Located just a short walk from the historic university town, the Old Course Hotel boasts one of the most iconic views in the world and is considered the mecca of golf. The property is bordered by the famous 17th road hole, the terrible Road Hole, one of the most difficult for its location and a real challenge for all golfers, professionals and enthusiasts. The Old Course Hotel's course, The Duke, is the only golf course on the St. Andrews Heath, voted in the UK's Top 100 by Golf World.

The structure was built in 1968 on the site of an old railway station, of which only the former station manager's house remains, although it blends perfectly into the landscape and the surrounding architecture, making it an ideal holiday destination for golfers and others. In 2004, American billionaire Herb Kohler purchased the hotel, which is now recognised as one of Europe's leading resorts. The Old Course offers a combination of classic and elegant and contemporary interiors and has 144 rooms, including 35 suites, some of which were designed by French designer Jacques Garcia, using the unmistakable striped wallpaper, red fabrics and dark wood furniture.

Golfers training at the Old Course Hotel

There are many physical benefits that this discipline brings to human body: inside the facility, the spa centre by Kohler, the first outside the U.S., offers a 20-meter pool with Jacuzzi and therapeutic experiences with seawater and seaweed treatments. The wellness centre offers a wide range of treatments specifically designed for golfers and enthusiasts, offering a 360-degree golfing experience.
Many erroneously consider golf to be a static discipline, it is to be considered a sport in all respects and requires specific athletic and muscular training to improve movements and performance. The Old Course Hotel has chosen the most innovative and technological Technogym equipment for cardio and strength training to give its guests a complete preparation.

We decided to choose Technogym just from the style, the professionalism, the training, the ongoing support and just the level of service that they provide us. The guests here are looking for a fantastic service, but they are also looking for a fantastic facility as well.

Golf requires coordination, concentration, balance, but also strength, endurance and flexibility, with SKILLMILL guests can perform a wide variety of exercises to build effective training sessions that can train speed, power, agility and endurance. Fundamental is the training of the whole body but above all try to keep the body toned.
The legs support the player in his movements but it’s very important to train the upper body: to be used are the abdominals in the twisting of the torso, the muscles of the legs in the swing and arms in the pull. Ideal for training the upper part of the neck is KINESIS which, thanks to FullGravity Technology, allows the user to perform movements with variable resistance in all planes of movement.
