The president of IOC visits the Italian Company that has become the reference brand for Olympic athletic training

May 29th 2017 – Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, today visited the Technogym Village, headquarters of the leading company in wellness and fitness and Official Supplier to the last 6 editions of the Olympic Games.

During the visit, Thomas Bach, together with Giovanni Malagò, President of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) met Nerio Alessandri, CEO and Founder of Technogym.

Bach was able to see the latest products and technologies that Technogym is developing for athletic performance training.

In addition to the most recent solutions, Thomas Bach learned of the Wellness Valley project, that aims to create in Romagna the very first wellness district based on quality of life in the world.

During the meeting, the President of the Olympic Committee and the entrepreneur discussed the role of the Games as a unique opportunity to communicate the importance of regular physical activity amongst the population and how sport can be pivotal in paving the way towards more cohesive and inclusive societies as well as in providing new opportunities for disadvantaged communities. The commitment of Technogym goes beyond its role as Official Supplier as the company also promotes projects that tangibly contribute to the legacy that the Olympic movement wants to leave after the Games.

In particular, in Rio, Nerio Alessandri launched the ‘Let’s Move for Rio’ social campaign, with which he has donated part of the equipment Technogym provided to the Olympics to 22 public gyms in Rio's most underprivileged communities, with the purpose of increasing awareness of the importance of sport and movement.

At the end of his visit, President Bach assigned to Nerio Alessandri the “President’s Award”, the prize that the International Olympic Committee delivers to people whose commitment to spreading sport goes far beyond ordinary standards.
