Technogym is Glasgow Life's new fitness provider
As Scotland looks to the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, Glasgow Life has announced a partnership with Technogym, Official Fitness Equipment Supplier to London 2012. The partnership covers the provision of cardiovascular, strength and functional PT equipment to 26 leisure facilities across Glasgow for the next three years.
Glasgow Life, which manages sports and leisure facilities on behalf of Glasgow City Council, is responsible for 26 leisure facilities, including 26 gyms, 12 swimming pools and around 1,000 fitness classes that aim to inspire Glasgow's citizens and visitors to lead richer and more active lives through culture, sport and learning.
The partnership encompasses a commitment to upgrade fitness facilities with new equipment, including Technogym's latest innovations, to engage the community in physical activity. VISIOWEB - the ultimate touch-screen digital platform for cardiovascular equipment; Vario – an adaptive stride cross trainer and Kinesis® Stations – unique intuitive machines for functional strength training, are just a few of the products to be introduced.
Councillor Archie Graham, Chair of Glasgow Life and the Executive Member for the Commonwealth Games, said: "We are committed to investing in the latest equipment to ensure our customers have access to the very best facilities. Over the next three years this partnership with Technogym will provide the people of Glasgow with an unrivaled leisure experience."
The announcement marks an exciting time for Glasgow Life following the opening of the £113-million Emirates Arena and a major refurbishment of Tollcross International Swimming Centre, set to be completed in spring 2013. The Arena includes a gym fitted with state-of-the-art Technogym equipment, a 6,500-seat indoor sports area, a 2,000-seat velodrome, four outdoor 5-a-side pitches, a 1km outdoor cycling circuit, a luxury spa and conference facilities.
The revamped Tollcross International Swimming Centre will boast two 50-metre swimming pools, one of the biggest Glasgow Life gyms with over 100 pieces of equipment, a refurbished games hall and brand new dance studio as well as a range of multi-functional spaces, making it ideal for both elite competitions and community health and fitness activities.
Steve Barton, Sales & Marketing Director (Clubs Division) at Technogym UK, said, "Technogym is delighted to be selected as a partner of Glasgow Life. With many exciting projects planned for the next three years – including the 2014 Commonwealth Games on the horizon – we look forward to developing leading fitness facilities that will help Glasgow Life's venues thrive and grow by truly engaging the community in physical activity.”
