Let’s Move for a Better World: donate your exercise to fight childhood obesity

Technogym’s social campaign involves fitness and wellness club members all over the world to donate a gym to a local school

Technogym, the world’s leading Wellness and fitness company, has launched the “Let’s Move for a Better World” challenge. Everyone exercising on Technogym equipment in clubs across 10 countries will have the chance to give a contribution to the cause and to donate a gym a local school.

By simply getting active and recording their physical activity through their local fitness centre, people have the chance to win the state of the art fitness equipment.
The most active club in each country – the one that accumulates the highest number of MOVEs (Technogym’s unity of measure for movement) – could win the opportunity to donate a gym circuit to a school of their choice and contribute in  helping the nation get fit.
Thanks to the Technogym Ecosystem - the first open platform in the industry which includes equipment, services, content and programs and mywellness cloud, Technogym’s cloud computing platform - it is possible to create a challenge between different clubs and among people inside the club, gathering their training data and creating a performance ranking to share with the community.

Let’s Move for a Better World is the result of Technogym’s thirty-year long commitment to improving Wellness around the world. The campaign offers an opportunity to build a more sustainable society based on personal health, and educating the younger generation is the crucial starting point towards reaching one common goal.

Childhood obesity is one of the most serious epidemics of the 21st century. By 2025, 70 million children under 5 will be overweight or obese if current trends continue. In 2013, 42 million children under the age of 5 were overweight or obese. Overweight and obese children are more likely to develop non communicable diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases at a younger age. In the past 30 years, childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents*.
Being overweight, obesity, and their related diseases are largely preventable through healthy eating habits and regular physical activity. The World Health Organization recommends at least 60 minutes of regular, moderate-to vigorous-intensity activity each day.

It’s simple, just join your local Technogym equipped gym, build up your MOVEs and watch your area transform into an all-round happier, healthier and more active community.

So come on, join in and Let’s Move for a Better World!
